One Week Away!

Yes, we are still here. And yes, we are getting nervous. But in a good, excited sort of way. My (Hugh’s) family is getting in starting Wednesday and that is going to be fun.

Thanks for the prayers and love!

F.A.Q.s

What Should I Wear?

Whatever you want to. Seriously. We want our friends to be comfortable, and we don’t think you should have to spend money to celebrate with us. Also, we recognize that we have friends from many segments of society, and we don’t want those who are stretched financially to not feel comfortable.

If it helps, we are not dressing up either. I (Hugh) am wearing a sport coat and Renee is wearing a brown dress.

What About Kids?

Please bring your kids! We want all our friends to be there, not just the quiet ones… All kids are welcolme. At the reception we will have wine available for the adults, but plenty of nonalchohalic options as well.

Gifts?

I covered this in some detail over here.

Where is this thing, anyway?

Once upon a time, I posted the name of a church that was helping the nonprofit I work for. They received several calls from folks telling them I was sending folks to hell with my “liberal gospel”. Because of that, I am hesitant to mention online the church where the service will be held. Email me for that.

Well, when is it, then?

The service will be held October 24th, 2009 at 1:30pm. Reception to follow at a friend’s house nearby - directions will be provided at the service.

Bringing You Up To Date

Many of you have just gotten your invitation in the mail today, and decided to check out this site for the first time. We are glad you are here. (If you are expecting an invitation and did not get one - we are sending them out in batches, the biggest determiner of when they go out being us having money for postage. Be patient - or, just show up anyway. We will be glad to see you, I assure you.)

On July 31, 2009, Renee and I stood before a magistrate and got hitched, in the eyes of the state, anyway. (There are a lot of complicated reasons we did that, most of which I tell about here.) And on October 24th of 2009, we want to celebrate with you guys.

You got the invitations with when and where - I am deliberately not mentioning the place online, because the last time I mentioned a church that I work with, they got calls telling them I am liberal and sending folks to hell. The church laughed at the caller, but I just don’t have time for wackos disturbed souls. If you have not gotten an invitation and want to know the details, just email me.

We set this site up so we could keep you up to date with what is going on. We will be updating it fairly regularly as we come into the last month before the big day! So you don’t have to keep checking back, you can sign up to get an email when we update this site - we highly recommend you do this, so we don’t have to email or call everyone all the time (while probably forgetting some of you)to bring you guys up to date.

Thank you guys for all the love and support, and we look forward to seeing you on October 24th!

Gifts and Stuff

Lots of folks are wanting to know where we are registered. I will tell you in a sec, but first, a moment for something I want to say.

We are tremendously blessed. In a world where so many people do without, we have plenty. We really debated hard over whether to even register, as we did not want our friends to feel obligated to buy us stuff. We are also aware of the cost to the planet of every bit of production, and we want to minimize that whenever possible. So…

Think of the gifts we picked as a guideline. If we have a coffeepot on the list, and you have a similar used coffeepot you are not using anymore, please give us that one instead. We don’t need you to spend money to show us you love us. WE LOVE USED STUFF!!!

That being said, here are the links to where we are registered.

Ten Thousand Villages

I don’t know if you know this store, but they are an awesome organization we try to support whenever we can. They buy items from artisans in developing nations, paying them a fair price and providing them a regular living. They sell online as well. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Target

We picked them because they are everywhere, and they are one of the better companies as far as how they treat their people. Plus, we like their stuff!

Cash!

If you wanted to help us pay for this wedding, we would not turn you away. Renee and I are paying for this out of our own pocket, and while we have had lots of stuff donated, it is still very, very tight. Any help would be appreciated. You can click on the DONATE button below and send money to our joint account via PayPal (you don’t have to have a paypal account).

Lots of love to you all. Check back soon - more updates are forthcoming.

Try, Try Again

We shook some things up here at the Hugh and Renee blog. If you are reading this by email or in your RSS reader, then maybe you don’t know, but our poor site was attacked by spammers a while back.

We are, however, undaunted. We just celebrated (if you want to call it that) our first month of being legally married, and thus far, no one has died as a result. I will bring everyone up to date in the next day or so, and hopefully by then you will be able to leave comments as well.

Thanks for your love and patience.
